Accident During Pregnancy | Accident While Pregnant Settlement

I hope all of you are doing good. The topic of today's article is Accidents in Pregnancy and Car Accident While Pregnant Settlement. We have noticed quiet often during our hospital and clinic practices that many women,

when they get pregnant, come to us due to many road side or house hold accidents.

Someone might have slipped in the washroom, or someone slipped during climbing up or down the stairs, or someone fell down while walking, and then there are roadside accidents.

In today's article we will see, why such accidents happen more in pregnancy, and after that, if you face any accident in such condition, what can be it's complications and what you have to do and at the end we will share some tips on how to save yourself from such accidents.

Lets discuss why such accidents happen more during pregnancy? First of all you know that a lot of hormones are being released during pregnancy, and under affect of these hormones the ligaments connected to our joints get too relaxed. Because of this your joints loosen up and you are unable to maintain your balance.

The second common reason is pain in your legs, or swelling in your feet which causes you hinderance while walking and many times you may fall down. During pregnancy, along with many changes, circulatory changes are also taking place in which your circulatory system is expanding which causes your blood pressure to reduce sometimes. This causes your head to feel dizzy and you loose your balance and fall down. Lastly, as the uterus grows with proceeding pregnancy your center of gravity shifts forward. Your back is facing all the burden which causes back pain and also causes difficulty in standing straight and it also disturbs your balance.

Now let us see if you do face some accident then what should you do?

And what can be it's complications?

During early pregnancy, up until 12 weeks, your uterus is protected by your pelvic bone, and later on as the uterus grows, your baby lies in the amniotic fluid that acts as a cushion then there is the wall of the uterus then comes your abdominal muscles and the fat around your abdominal area. They all protect your baby. So many times small accidents do not harm the baby. But, God forbid, if you fall, you can undergo bleeding, which can be due to placenta being separated from the uterus. This bleeding can be internal as well as external. Other than this, if your baby's sack has leaked, then you may face too much watery discharge.Your baby's movements can be affected. And your pains can also start.

Now what you have to do is, if your are hurt too much or not, you have to go to your doctor as soon as possible. Because, your doctor will examine you in detail, do your ultrasound scans, check your baby's position, the position of the placenta, the quantity of the lycra. Other than this, if some other organ is injured,

For example suppose, rupture of the spleen, or liver,or some fracture,in all these cases, your doctor can guide you better.

Moving on,what preventive measures can be taken against such accidents.

First of all, if you are pregnant, your shoes should be extremely comfortable, you should avoid heels, the sole of your shoe should have good grip so you don't slip or twist your ankle anywhere. If you have to climb up or down the stairs, you must use the railing on the side, climb holding that railing so if your get imbalanced you don't fall easily as you're holding onto something.

You should not be hasty in your routine works for example if you used to get up and finish any work hurriedly, now you have to slow down and if you get up you get up slowly, and walk slowly as well.

You should not do any work that is heavy for example moving around with the laundry basket in hand, or placing heavy luggage in upper cupboards, avoid any such works.

If you walk, try to find smooth paths containing no bumps. Try not to walk in grass either, because uneven surface can cause you to trip easily.

You should always have a snack with you, or you should always have water bottle with you, because if your blood pressure reduces, or your sugar levels drop, then use these snacks or water and prevent yourself from accidents.

You must not ride bikes, because on bikes mostly pregnant women have difficulty maintaining balance. If you are travelling in a car, then always wear your seat belt.

And how exactly should you wear your seat belt? The lower part of the belt should be on the lower side of your pregnancy bump, not on it.

And the diagonal strip of your belt should go down from your center to the side from ABOVE your baby bump.

You should keep your lights on during the night because due to frequent urination or due to nausea vomiting during early pregnancy you might need to visit your washroom several times.

So keeping your lights on at night so you don't trip or bump into objects on the way and try that your pathways are clean and remove all objects beforehand.

I hope if you follow these preventive measures, you would stay safe from many accidents during pregnancy.
